Melissa
The sage belongs to the genus of Angiosperm dicotyledonous plants Elvifaskos (Salvia). The variety that we mainly find in Greece is Salvia officinalis.
It is a perennial, shrubby, with numerous branches, up to half a meter high. It is usually found in all areas of Greece, mainly in dry and rocky places.
The leaves are elongated and thick, of white-green colour. The flowers are purple and bloom between May and June and dries in the shade.
The plant has a strong aromatic odor and is cultivated for its medicinal properties.
The essential oil of the herb contains as main substance saponins, bitter substances, terpenes, resins, bitter diterpenes, tannins, triterpenes, flavonoids and thujone.
